Increasing DPO may indicate that a firm is having difficulty paying its suppliers and may be cause for concern, especially if the cash isn't being put to good use. Looking at trends in the DPO over quarters and years can provide a better picture on the future of a company. Looking at the DPO at one point in time can only tell you so much about the firm's cash flow management. Short-term payment terms with discounts.Improper utilization of credit offered by suppliers. Not all is bad with a low days payable, it could also indicate that the company has struck favorable short-term payment terms with a supplier in exchange for attractive discounts that are in line with their business model. It could also indicate improper cash management by the firm as they are not taking advantage of the credit being offered. Potential inability to pay back suppliers on timeĪ company with a low DPO could indicate that it has poor credit terms with suppliers and is unable to attain more attractive terms. If the DPO is too high, it could be a sign that the company is in financial distress and does not have the cash to pay its obligations on time. That being said, taking too long to pay back suppliers could lead to poor future relations with suppliers, especially if competitors are paying back suppliers faster. It takes longer to pay back suppliers and as a result keep more cash on their accounts to invest in the business or to purchase short-term money market securities and earn interest. High DPO is generally a good thing for a company to have. For example, a payables turnover ratio of 10 means that a company pays suppliers 10-times a year, and the DPO would be 36.5 (365/10).Īs mentioned above, the optimal ratio is entirely dependent on the industry, to better understand how a company stacks up against its competitors, you should compare it against the industry as a whole. The costs associated with the actual manufacturing of products (raw materials, wages, and utilities) are grouped together and represented by Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) What is Accounts Payable Turnover RatioĪccounts payable turnover ratio is a short-term liquidity ratio used to show how many times a company pays its suppliers in a year. This creates a liability known as "Accounts Payable" and indicates the payments to be made to suppliers. Payables Turnover = Purchases / Average Accounts PayableĬost of Goods Sold = Beginning Inventory + Purchases - Ending InventoryĪll firms incur costs when manufacturing goods for sale, and when buying the resources required to make these products, companies will often purchase them on credit and pay at a later date. How to Calculate dPO?ĭays Payable Outstanding (DPO) can be calculated as:ĭPO = (Average Accounts Payable / Cost of Goods Sold) X 365 Days These companies are likely also using similar suppliers who are offering similar early payment discounts. Interpretation of the DPO figure can be difficult when looking at just one company, looking at comparable companies in the industry can provide insight into what is considered "normal". However, this may also indicate that the firm is taking advantage of discounts for early repayment, which may justify a lower value. A high DPO can also be a red-flag for analysts as it may indicate low levels of liquidity as the company fails to pay its bills on time.Ī low DPO value may indicate that the company is paying its bills too soon and not taking advantage of possible interest bearing short-term securities. For example, firm's will typically invest cash into money-market securities and earn interest, rather than paying down debts immediately. It is a useful measure for determining how well the firm is managing its accounts payables and their cash out-flows.Ī company with a high DPO takes longer to pay back its suppliers, and as a result, retains that cash for longer periods of time to maximize its benefits. DPO is the average number of days it takes to pay back suppliers, vendors, or creditors. Days Payable Outstanding (DPO) is an accounting concept that relates to a firm's Accounts Payable.

Hidden zippers are discreetly placed within the fabric of the bag, making it much more difficult for a thief to identify them and quickly open your bag. Having hidden zippers and lockable compartments on an anti-theft purse is an essential feature that can significantly reduce the chances of a thief attempting to access your valuables. Ideally, if the straps of your bag are also slash-resistant, it will be even more difficult for a determined thief to get away with your valuables. The fabric typically consists of woven materials that have been reinforced with steel or carbon fibre wires to make them incredibly difficult to cut. Not only that, this fabric will also help to protect your belongings from being damaged in the event of a theft attempt. This type of material is designed to be resistant to knives and blades and helps to protect your belongings from being stolen in a slash-and-grab attack. Slash-resistance fabrics are one of the key features to look for when selecting an anti-theft bag or purse. I’ve mentioned some already above, so let’s go over them one by one. When choosing an anti-theft bag, there are four key features that you should look for to ensure your valuables are as secure as possible. What Should I Look For In An Anti-Theft Bag? Some even come with built-in RFID blocking layers to protect against unauthorized access to your personal data stored on your bank cards or passport. What sets anti-theft bags apart from other types of bags is the fact that they are crafted from materials that offer an extra layer of security, such as slash-resistant fabric and hidden zippers. Whether it’s an anti-theft backpack, anti-theft purse or anti-theft bag, these special accessories are designed to offer a higher level of security and protection than regular travel purses and bags when travelling. Anti-theft bags are becoming increasingly popular and sought after due to the growing number of theft cases being reported. The market is made up of many investors, each of whom may look at the world differently. When the market moves as much as it did in 2020, a lot of common definitions and reference points we take for granted no longer work. Is any of these drawdowns more legitimate than the others? Very quickly, we can divine that the right drawdown answer lies in the eyes of the beholder. Since each investor has their own definition of a specific period, there can be multiple right answers for defining drawdowns. He pointed out that only a trader, not an investor, would call Peak to Trough using a 4-week intra-month period as a drawdown.Īccording to Investopedia, a drawdown is a peak-to- trough decline during a specific period for an investment, trading account, or fund. Therefore, claiming that fund had a “1- month” return of negative 42% is incorrect. The reader pointed out, also correctly, that the calendar monthly returns in Feb ’20 and March ’20 were negative 7% and negative 20% respectively. This is the return I had in mind and quoted when I wrote the article. The return between those 2 dates is ~ negative 42%. Just about 4- weeks later, it crashed and experienced a closing low of ~ $57. Starting the year around ~93, the fund rallied in late February ’19 to around $99. As a proxy for the Vanguard Real Estate fund, I have chosen the Vanguard Real Estate ETF (VNQ, a fund I own and like).Īs we can see from the price history in Column B, 2020 was a very volatile year for VNQ. I have picked some dates around the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic as it relates to my comments on Equity REITs in the TIPS article. How do successful investors practically and psychologically deal with drawdowns?įirst, let’s look at the calculations. How should we define it? How do most investors experience drawdowns? and.Part 2 of this question is also a great opportunity to discuss one of the most difficult and imminent problems in investing: Difficult part: why do the drawdowns matter and for whom?.(Would a 50% decline in your portfolio that lasted two weeks be “better” than a 25% decline that resolved in two months?) That’s a question worth pursuing. A lively exchange of views occurred, driven in part by different takes on how long a drawdown must last in order to be of material concern. That prompted a challenge from a thoughtful reader who has considerable expertise in the fund industry. To prove the point, I pointed to a one-month drawdown endured by the Vanguard REIT Fund during the Covid-19 pandemic of Feb/March 2020. Risky assets – Equity, REITs, and Stocks – while great for participating in long-term growth, are not good at capital preservation in tough market conditions. I mentioned that “part of an asset’s job is to help protect the portfolio during a financial catastrophe. This past month, Feb 2022, was a timely demonstration of the above reasoning. One, they do not respond well to inflation in the short-term and two, they act poorly in severe market drawdowns. In passing, I also noted the long-term potential role of domestic stocks and Equity REITS in protecting against inflation, while mentioning their two main drawbacks. I highlighted the promise of short-duration TIPS funds. The article was focused in particular on the performance of funds and ETFs with substantial exposure to TIPS (Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities) and similar products. My “ Thoughts on Inflation Protection” essay, which appeared in MFO’s February 2022 issue, focused primarily on the role of different major asset classes in providing an inflation buffer for your portfolio. Since the engine coolant becomes hot, it is transferred to a radiator located at the front of the vehicle. This is where the engine coolant, a water-based solution, comes in handy to absorb the heat from the engine. Since so much heat is dispersed when operating car engines, they require a way of cooling down, or else the internal engines will melt from the inside out. This heat is either expelled through the exhaust while some remains inside the engine block. This energy is divided between allowing the vehicle to accelerate forward and the remainder of the energy is converted to heat. When vehicles are actively operating, they tend to create a large amount of energy by burning up the gas in the fuel tank. The coolant is a mixture of anti-freeze and water. What is Engine Coolant / What is Radiator CoolantĮngine Coolant is a fluid that absorbs the heat within the engine and then travels to the radiator to cool. What Is the Importance of the Engineīefore addressing the reasons for your low coolant light to illuminate, it is important to understand exactly what engine coolant is and the importance of keeping it filled in your vehicle. Continually driving with a low coolant light on could cause severe damage to the internals of the engine. When the light comes on there may be no immediate danger that would require you to abandon your vehicle, but stopping your car is heavily recommended. Given that the coolant is blue, it could be that the cooling system has been adversely affected by the use of a coolant type it wasn't designed for, though I'm not sure if I would blame it for this vehicle's coolant loss woes.If there is any light you should be attentive of it is the low coolant light for sure. I'd recommend cleaning the oil spots and monitoring to see if the stains return in the short term. The power steering reservoir is also a possible culprit. If the oil hasn't been changed recently, there may be a leak associated with the neighboring oil cooler or a crack in the oil filter housing. Given the oil filter housing is in the nearby vicinity I wouldn't be surprised if the stains are the remnants of a recent oil filter change. The reason for this should be obvious, but the consequences of engine damage from overheating is far worse than any impact of using the wrong fluid on the cooling system.Ĭoolant evaporates and leaves a milky-white stain behind that's oil on the radiator hose If the recommended coolant/coolant grade is not available and the coolant level is low, top up the reservoir with distilled water and have the system evaluated by an authorized dealership as soon as possible. In a pinch, any coolant is better than no coolantĮven litigation-wary vehicle manufacturers will invariably recommend this in owner manuals (paraphrased from my W12 Touareg manual): I am attaching following picture that may provide more hints, because there is fluid exhausted with force from what I think is radiator hose: The coolant is pouring on the street (in this case there could be something dipping below the car)Ĭoolant gets burned together with fuel and goes out through exhaust pipe (not sure what hints are for this case).Īre the any possible root causes that could explain why coolant disappears? I guess there are three possibilities:Ĭoolant is leaking in oil compartment (in this case the oil may become milky) I suppose it is also important to find out why coolant has disappeared. If it is better not to drive around in current condition, can I simply pour in a liter of distilled water to get the car around for a day or so? I guess this would dillute the water:coolant ratio from 50:50 to something like 60:40. If coolant reservoir is not completely empty and low coolant light is turning on only intermittently, is it ok to drive around for a day or so for short trips until this gets properly fixed? Does this kind of job imply also coolant change? if so, then I guess there is possibility that it is not the blue BMW coolant in her car anymore and in this case the coolant should be flushed if its type can't be determined anymore? She got engine gasket replaced outside BMW a year ago. I would be inclined to buy and pour in new coolant, however, after googling around I have few doubts now: Nevertheless, the float stick was still floating and there was still some fluid left inside the reservoir. I checked the coolant reservoir and float stick was slightly below the "low line". In the last few days the "low coolant" light has been intermittently turning on on my friend's BMW X3 (2007 ~70K miles). (The Cyborg could have red lights instead of cyan when angry.)) (That's not racist, I meant a dark shade.) Others may look completely different. (By my best friend): NPCs will look different depending on their HM. (By If you have a Party Girl, other NPC's happiness will go down slower. (By If an NPC dies, all NPCs become sadder. (By NPCs get a bit happier if you spend at least 1 Gold Coin on their items they sell. (By NPCs hurt by traps you set get 6 times as sad. (By The Party Girl will never leave as long as she has a disco ball in her room. (For example, if the Nurse is angry, she might say, "Looks like the 'hero' got hurt. (By NPCs will say new phrases depending on their happiness meter. " or "This is awesome!" Thank you for reading! You can say something like "This is absolutely horrible because. My Happiness Meter suggestion is now finished! Please comment what you think about this idea/suggestion. That means that during an invasion, if an NPC gets hurt for 30 damage, they'll only get. Yet again, there's no need to be worried! I have a rule for that as well! Once your world enters Hardmode, if an NPC gets damaged, their 'sadness percent' will be cut into SIXTHS! (For example, if you're in Hardmode and an NPC gets hurt for 30 damage, they'll only get 2% sadder. You may also be worried about how much damage Hardmode enemies do to NPCs. You can't just put your NPCs halfway across the world so you can farm some happiness for them.) And finally, HARDMODE! But don't worry! If an NPC kills a monster, they'll become relieved, meaning they get 3-4% happier! Invasions! Are you worried that a goblin invasion will just completely destroy your people's happiness? Not to worry! Your people will obviously know what's going on, so during any invasion, when they get damaged, they're 'sadness percent' will be cut into fourths! (For example, if someone gets hit for 20 damage, they'll only get 2% sadder.) Not only that, but when an invasion ends, everyone will be so relieved that they'll get 20% happier! (This only affects the NPCs that got hurt by the invasion. That means that for every 5 damage an NPC receives, they'll get 1-2% sadder. If you add at least 3 decorations, then they'll get 2% happier every hour.) Monsters/Getting hurt! Of course, someone who gets hurt generally becomes sadder for a while. If you add 1 or 2 decorations, they'll get 1% happier every ingame hour. You need to DECORATE to make them happy! (If you add no decorations to someone's house, the person won't become happier over time. These are ALL OF THEM!:ĭecoration! Of course, no one really likes having a house with only a table and chair. If someone's meter is at 0%, they'll have a 50% chance to leave.) What effects the HM? There are quite a few things that can affect someone's HM. If someone's meter is at 15%, they'll have a 10% chance to leave at 5:00 a.m. (They start getting this angry if the meter is only 15% full. If someone's HM is REALLY LOW, then they might actually LEAVE. If the Tax Collector is happy, he'll give you more money.) If someone's HM is low though, they will do the opposite. (If the Guide is happy, the Wall of Flesh will have a bit less health. If someone's HM is high, they'll give you discounts on what they're selling. What does it do? The HM (happiness meter) does something good if it's high, and something pretty bad if it's low. Now it's time to show you what it does AND how to maintain your people's happiness. So far, I've shown you what the Happiness Meter was.
Over the next decade, Henry and Jasper would face long exiles abroad and the rise and fall of their fortunes serving the interests first of the House of Lancaster and then by promoting a new royal house of Tudor. When Henry Tudor picked up the crown of England from the mud of Bosworth Field he knew he would have to marry the princess of the rival house Elizabeth of York in an effort to unify a country divided by war for nearly two decades.
